DECODING DEMENTIA GATHERING

OVERVIEW

Montessori Inspired Lifestyle, the Validation method and Best Friends Approach are all ‘person-directed’ mindsets, strategies, or tools. Dr. Cameron Camp, Vicki de Klerk-Rubin and David Troxel will share the principles of their methods, how to apply them to contemporary dementia care, and share how they can complement one another to enhance the lives of persons living with dementia and their care partners. Following this, an expert panel will discuss the meaning and importance of choosing an ‘evidence-based’ approach for in-service training. Participants will become equipped to talk to executives about their recommendations for training. Finally, participants will practice six specific skills that they can use immediately in their daily work.

Participants who attend the live event can earn up to 3 CEU credits.

SESSION 2:  1:30 – 2:30PM EST

Building a Case for your Person-Directed Approach

In this panel discussion moderated by Charles de Vilmorin, speakers will outline how life enrichment professionals can present decision makers in their senior living community with research outcomes of person-directed approaches to care that build a case for the importance of meaningful resident engagement, especially for those living with dementia. Participants will learn how to both measure and communicate about the results of person-directed approaches to care for older adults that they are currently using in their communities. They will understand how to look up evidence-based research to support their case by using quality online tools and existing data within their organizations so they can connect these to clinical and financial outcomes. Speakers will provide reference lists to support activity professionals and describe what resources you can trust when building your case.

OBJECTIVES

30-Day Challenge: Putting Person-Directed Methods into Practice

OBJECTIVES
